DIRECTOR'S NOTE

When I was 16 years old, I was put into a conversion therapy center by my family. Their hope was to change my preferences into heterosexuality. Since that event, my work as a filmmaker has been to question and confront the discrimination and violence that exists toward the young LGBTQ+ community in Jalisco, México. I made this short film to spark reflection on what happens in family relationships characterized by the rejection of queer kids and to deliver an informed message to parents who have been violent toward their queer children or who have considered entering their kinds into these kinds of centers, that are still operating.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Luis Pacheco is a director and screenwriter. He graduated as a film director at the University of Guadalajara and was nominated for the Ariel Award by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (“Winter”, 2021) and received a special mention at the Morelia International Film Festival FICM (“Summer”, 2022). He won Best Director Award at the Hayah International Short Film Festival of Panama (“Winter”, 2021) and Best Short Film at the 23rd Rencontres du Cinéma Sud-Américain in Marseille, France (“When the wolf is not around”, 2020). He is currently working on his debut feature film.
