ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Timo Willman is a Finnish-born, London-based filmmaker and actor. He completed his acting training at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London and has worked internationally across film and television for the last 15 years. He expanded his focus to writing and directing with his short film GRACE & SOPHIE, which premiered at BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival and has since screened at festivals in Europe and USA. Timo is in post-production and development for further films and is particularly interested in telling multicultural and multilingual stories and in exploring themes around the fluidity/rigidity of both sexual and national identities.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
GRACE & SOPHIE is a comedy exploring friendship and millennial attitudes towards sexual fluidity. Like many, I too have found myself in situations where a line has been crossed with a friend. And far too often, as awkward humans, the communication that follows is so poor that the friendship suffers. So, in making the film, I wanted to ask the question: What would happen if, despite the awkwardness, the characters were braver than I had been and they actually attempted communication?
