DIRECTOR'S NOTE
|
When I was 12 I studied at a British international school in Mexico, where I grew up as a child. I discovered there my attraction to men and the loneliness that came along with it. I wanted to explore this morally complex perspective childhood, recognizing the fear behind the excommunication of the boys I grew up with. I wanted to observe their fear of homosexuality, the fear that I myself had of my homosexuality, the great hatred that grew inside me towards myself and towards the other boys who felt uncomfortable in my presence. From this perspective I feel that no one is clearly guilty, or clearly innocent, but rather there is a circle of violence and fear with no clear beginning or end. I feel that perhaps this kind of perspective can lead to a more compassionate discourse, and forgiveness.
