Joey, a self-described 'gay Bridget Jones', rediscovers her sexuality in the most unexpected of ways. Tired of always being lonely and single, she meets Alice at a laughter club and her fortunes begin to change. Then Stella comes into the mix one night when they meet at a bar.

DIRECTOR'S NOTE
Joey’s Heart is a film about wanting to find someone special and hope. I wanted to make a light-hearted love story for the LBGT+ community, where I could channel some of my own personal experiences into the script. Being in the LGBTQIA+ community myself, there are limited stories and I don’t see myself reflected in screen often. There aren’t many lesbian stories with mature women in their 30s/40s and so I made the kind of film I would like to watch myself.

Louise Lever is a New Zealand filmmaker who prioritises the female gaze and LGBTQIA+ stories in her work. Her short film “Joey’s Heart” has screened at BFI Flare Film Festival, Roze FilmDagen, and numerous festivals internationally. While living in Melbourne she made her debut feature documentary film “Revolt She Said” – a portrait of contemporary perspectives on the feminist movement. The film features interviews with trailblazing women such as Former Prime Minister of New Zealand Helen Clark and award-winning journalist Alison Mau. It was screened on Rialto Channel and TVNZ On Demand. Louise is currently working on a feature narrative and finishing a new feature documentary film.
