DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
'Love Lost' is a family drama. One that is deeply rooted in human emotion and hopefully transcends queer audiences. Longing for a parental figure is something we've all experienced and we can see it played out by João and the lengths he is prepared to go to connect. I love exploring connection and family relations in my writing. Connection - and the lack of it - is always at play in all of our relationships: with our families, friends, partners, colleagues, found families. 'Love Lost' is a film about connection and the search for it.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Picture
Pablo Saura is a creenwriter and film director from Cartagena based in London. His work combines queer sensitivity, immigrant perspectives, and sharp humour to explore themes such as identity, belonging, and family. He began his career with “This Is Britain”, winner of the Innovation Award at Eurovideo, and trained in screenwriting at the London Film School. In 2025, his directorial debut, “Love Lost”, was BIFA-qualified and received the Best Director award at the Big Fridge International Festival in London. He writes and directs in both English and Spanish, with a style marked by tenderness, irony, and a desire to represent those not usually at the centre of the narrative.
