One stormy winter night, soaking wet 20 year old Ilias arrives uninvited at Petros’ house. Ilias’ erratic behaviour causes much concern to Petros. He vaguely remembers meeting Ilias one night some years ago, in a gay bar. As the night goes on, unsettling truths come to the fore, and as much as Petros would like to be rid of his guest, some truths will stay with you forever.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
'Men Don’t Cry' is a short film which was created when H.I.V. and the AIDS disease was on the rise. At that period of time (2000), HIV patients suffered from severe anxiety and distress, while fear and racism created social taboos that oppressed the entire gay community. The main elements that motivated me and led to the writing of the script were the loss of friends and acquaintances, the difficult situations created in the social and family lives of the survivors and my awareness of the sensitive and difficult issue of relationships between two infected men. After all, so many people were infected through casual sex. The script idea was born out of a dream I had one night, a few days after the death of a friend of mine due to AIDS, and it was the reason for its adaptation by my friend and collaborator Giannis Tsiros to a film script. At that time the film evoked a high sense of identification as everything related to the AIDS disease was still so emotionally charged. The disease then evolved into a chronic disease, so the film has a different emotional impact nowadays. An additional reason for the creation of the film is my love for the short film form. Through short film I feel that I am complete as a director and producer. I do hope you like the film, that you will be touched and that it will give you some food for thought - Kyriakos Chatzimichailidis, Director/Producer
