I am fascinated by all the different ways of being human. And I admire people who dare to be themselves, even if they stand out from the norm; those who dare to explore themselves and who manage to be true to who they are. 'Raniya' is a universal story about finding and being the true version of yourself. I want the film to take an active part in the normalization process of infatuation and love that occurs across gender, religion and ancestry. The personal challenges and problems that follow by coming out - not just sexually - is something we all recognize; to discover and explore unknown aspects of ourselves, and learn to stay true to them.
